BHSD CJS THU/Shelter Beds

The Behavioral Health Services Department (BHSD) provides interim housing and other supportive services to BHSD clients who are criminal justice involved. Individuals may be referred by BHSD CJS OP staff to contracted THU/shelter providers. Services include: BHSD CJS has dedicated Transitional Housing Units and shelter beds. Services provided are interim housing and other supportive services.

Individuals with mental health and co-occurring conditions who are criminal justice involved; individuals must be open to BHSD  CJS OP program to be eligible for this service; must be residents of Santa Clara County

Homeless Prevention (emergency assistance)

Programs stop homelessness before it starts by providing financial assistance and services to prevent families and individuals from losing their housing. Assistance may be one-time or for a short period in the form of vouchers, deposit assistance, and/or subsidized rental assistance.  

Eligibility and Referral Process

Clients at the Reentry Resource Center can request an assessment and staff will help them apply to the appropriate program.

Peacock Commons (Permanent Supportive Housing)

Peacock Commons provides permanent supportive housing to 45 transition age youth ages 18 – 25. This includes youth who are chronically homeless, at-risk of becoming homeless, aging out of foster care, or victims of domestic violence. A unique component of Peacock Commons, our twenty-eight unit apartment complex, is the inclusion of six mentors who live on the premises and serve as role models for the residents and help facilitate activities.

Permanent Supportive Housing Program (Jail Diversion)

The Office of Supportive Housing (OSH) provides permanent housing for both reentry clients and SMI clients in general. Clients can be linked to these services through the Department 61 and Behavioral Health Treatment Court clinicians screen for eligibility before referring to the service provider.

Chronically Homeless (HUD definition) and diagnosed with a serious/severe mental illness.

Reentry Rapid Rehousing Programs (RRH)

Provides short-term financial assistance and support (6 to 12 months, on average) to quickly re-house homeless households in their own independent housing. The goal is to quickly move households out of homelessness and back into permanent housing, providing the lightest level of service necessary to assist the household.

Assists with past-due rent & rental deposits
